BOOK WORKS - final idea

Using my new idea of quotes/sayings which include the word SQUARE (which I have replaced with an actual square), I played around with having one quote on each page and then the longest quote on the back.

I started with a simple/smart/clear black and white colour scheme - I didn't want it to be too complicated as i was using a the typeface

Original colour scheme (above) - I used the lighter blue - when I accidentally highlighted the work i thought that actually it looked better with a lower opacity

Instead of using a square with pointed corners I felt that using a square with curved edges looked better with the typeface.

Final piece - I had to rotate each of the sections of the top line because of the folding of the book

BOOK WORKS - ideas and piece

My original idea was to create a piece with the background of squares and have symbols and words to do with student life - below are a couple pictures of my initial work. However I changed my idea as I didn't feel this was a strong piece or had any depth/intersting behind it.

Looking at sayings/quotes about squares and include images of squares;

BACK TO SQUARE 1
  • could create a maze - figure walking round/going through stages then trips up etc and goes back to square 1
  • video game
  • mind puzzle
FAIR AND SQUARE

TOO MANY SQUARE MEALS MAKE TOO MANY ROUND PEOPLE

BE THERE OR BE SQUARE

SQUARE UP

SQUARE PEG ROUND HOLE

SQUARE DANCE

SQUARE ROOT

TOO MUCH TV GIVES YOU SQUARE EYES

I have 9 quotes about squares - the hot dog fold divides the paper into 8 sections meaning I have have 8 of these quotes (with or without images) on one side, and the remaining quote can take up the whole other side.
