PACKAGING DESIGN WORKBOOK - Steven DuPuis & John Silva
This book has provided me with many more things to consider when designing packaging for print.
AREAS TO CONSIDER
- Brand positioning
- the role of packagine
- messaging and communication - correct tone of voice
- mock up layout of the packaging
- front, back, outside, inside
- make it belivable - bar codes, website, company info?
- stock
- extra materials
- imagery - and the positioning of it
- place - what situation is the packaging going to be viewed in?
MY PLAN SO FAR...
- The package will have a square or rectangular box format
- There will be an interior packaging to hold the product and promotion in place
- If I decide to have the product in one package and the promotional / information separate I need to look at flat packaging.
- STOCK - heavy gsm so that the product is protected and the packaging is sturdy and looks expensive - use examples of LG and Iphone packaging.
- Colour - currently my logo is on a white background, I need to find a pure white (coated) thick stock - or alike, not cream.
- Finishing - how is the package going to be opened? Some packaging has magnets inside so it clean and can be used again. Other package you have a die cut part and you can tear it open
- INFORMATION booklet - research further.
- PROCESSES - coated, UV varnish, metalic ink / metallic varnish? Find examples of current processes.
